Dear all. Thanks to all the support from concerned people and some sympathetic ears in positions of authority, progress continues in the fight to save Gaden House. As developments occur we will keep you informed. In the meantime, I draw your attention to another significant mid century treasure under threat. The University of New England [UNE] is planning to demolish and redevelop substantial portions of the 1960 Michael Dysart designed Robb College retaining only one dining hall in a unified group of four college buildings. The buildings are an outstanding example of austere post war modernism, utilising a simple palette of materials and formal language they have stood firm for almost 60 years. Please visit the petition created by Landscape Architect Duncan Gibbs and lend your voice in support of preservation and refurbishment, also the more cost effective option as demonstrated by a National Trust study.
