The Issue

The Woodstock Youth Empowerment Alliance (Y.E.A.) are working to implement a crosswalk at Route 47 and Country Club Road. Many of our members and people in the community have complained about nearly getting hit or almost hitting someone at this intersection.

In our research, on Walkscore (https://www.walkscore.com/score/60098 we found that Woodstock, IL has a walkability score of 11 out of 100. With this in mind, we find it very hard for people to cross the road and receive necessary resources like food and pharmaceuticals.

We want to ensure the safety and accessibility to all modes of transportation and we believe a crosswalk would make this possible.

Responded
Our office contacted the IL Department of Transportation regarding your concern. The Department is currently working on the preparation of construction plans for the improvement of IL 47 from US 14 to IL 120 in the City of Woodstock, McHenry County. Current engineering efforts are targeted to enable a contract letting in the early years of the Department’s Fiscal Year 2025 to Fiscal Year 2030 Proposed Highway Improvement Program contingent upon plan readiness, land acquisition, and continued funding availability through the Department’s future annual legislative appropriations. The general scope included in this project consists of roadway widening and reconstruction of IL 47 with three roundabouts at Lake Street, McConnell Road and Judd Street/Irving Avenue. Other proposed improvements include pavement resurfacing, shared use paths, roadway lighting, traffic signal, and all incidental work necessary to complete the improvement. A 5-foot sidewalk on the west side of the roadway and a 10-foot shared-use path on the east will be included throughout the IL 47 corridor within limits of this project. As a result there will be pedestrian and bicyclists access and a crosswalk at all four corners of IL 47 and Country Club Road intersection. Each pedestrian access point to the crosswalk will be in compliance with current ADA Standards to ensure the safety and accessibility to all modes of transportation in the vicinity of the location. More information on the project can be found on the Department’s website: https://idot.illinois.gov/projects/IL-47-From-US-Route-14-to-Charles-Road Updates to the website will be provided once construction begins on the project.
