If it's about the school then I'm confused...

The civic campus project began the public hearing to rezone the current 3.3 acres of civic campus from a zoning of public institutional to core business district which is one of the three critical components to moving the transfer of deed for the ownership of Woodinville's civic campus. There has been some PR by the developers and City about how this project is to "save" the Woodinville school house. That's fascinating to me. On the City of Woodinville website is a recounting of the many opportunities that Woodinville's governing parties have declined to save the historic landmark. Why is it necessary to give away our civic campus in order for the Woodinville school house to be "saved" by those that have been entrusted with that responsibility? It was after all not just a place for our grandparents education but also the place of our first City government offices. Very sad to me that this important structure is now being turned into a restaurant / bar because Woodinville's residents call it, as one public comment stated at the Council meeting on 5/15, "a dump." Sad indeed. The only reason that it is now in such a state is that the City failed to maintain the structure when it moved into the current City Hall facilities. It's a good thing that not every person views historic structures in this harsh regard. When I visited Philadelphia earlier this year I was fortunate to visit the historic landmarks that others had protected so that one day I could be physically connected with our past. Feel free to share your opinion with those that are making these choices. Council Member Al Taylor suggested that perhaps this decision should be put to a vote of the residents. Perhaps it should, perhaps it should.
