Barbara Perkinson garnered more than 1,300 votes in the recent election, the third highest vote count for the 3-member Board of Selectmen. Due to Connecticut's "minority representation" statute she was not allowed to be seated, thereby ensuring Democrat Party representation. When a Republican selectman-elect failed to qualify, an unaffiliated voter registered as a Republican and was installed by the remaining Board members.
