Ensure Menstrual Leaves for Womxn in Pakistan

Ensure Menstrual Leaves for Womxn in Pakistan

The Issue

Womxn can lose their jobs for taking leaves every month because of menstruation. However, should they? Please take out a moment to reflect upon this grave problem impacting at least 28 percent of womxn and girls in Pakistan, missing school or work due to extreme period pain.

For womxn in Pakistan, the lack of attention, resources, and support mechanisms for healthcare facilities are severely lacking in many regions, resultantly also making menstruation a taboo subject. Therefore, paid menstruation leave, rarely ever talked about, has been the concern for womxn and employers struggling to address their issues. .

On average, womxn menstruate for 55 to 75 days a year. A menstrual leave policy will ensure that employees function to the best of their potential, simultaneously making the organizational environment inclusive and equitable. Thereby, we must present menstruators with this choice to avail period leaves by accommodating their healthcare needs in school, within workplaces, and at community level.

Since womxn menstruate, they need menstrual leaves.
