HRT has come to stand for Horse, Repulsion and Torture, not Hormone Replacement Therapy.

The pharmaceutical giant Pfizer makes about a $1 billion a year by abusing pregnant horses for their urine. Conjugated equine estrogen (CEE) is used in menopause drugs which Pfizer sells primarily under the name of Premarin, but also under the names Prempro, Premphase, Prempac, Premelle, Aprella & Duavee.

Premarin and its associated names have been linked to cancer, dementia, heart disease, stroke and more. Did you know that The National Toxicology Program and the World Health Organization have performed studies actually linking Premarin to cancer? Premarin has been manufactured since 1942 and the pharmaceutical giant is aware of its side effects, yet has failed to develop an alternative. While Pfizer, through its use of horse farms all over the world, supports revolting inhumane practices to extort urine out of pregnant horses, it is also extorting health from women all over the world.   

More facts:  As per the New York Times, a jury in a Pennsylvania state court awarded  $75 million in punitive damages from Wyeth (bought out by Pfizer) and compensatory damages of $3.75 million to a woman because of  Prempro .This article  further says that Pfizer plans to appeal every product-liability case on menopausal drugs it loses, including this case.  There are at least 13,000 cases pending.

What makes Premarin such a push-button issue is the way the urine is extracted.  The mares are repeatedly impregnated, made to stand up in straight stalls with limited mobility.  Often, they are not given sufficient water so the urine is more concentrated. When the mares can no longer become pregnant or become too sick or injured to stand, they are sent to slaughter for human consumption.

The fate of the foals is bleak. Foals are sent to feedlots after the mares go back into the ‘Pee Barns’ in September. The foals and mares who cannot conceive are sold at auction to "kill buyers" and ultimately end up at the slaughterhouse where they will be stunned, dismembered, butchered and their meat sold for human consumption in countries where there is an appetite for it.

A filly has a less than one in 10 chance of not going to slaughter, a colt has less than one in 50!‬

The President of Dreamchaser PMU Rescue, a horse rescue organization that was created to save Premarin mares and foals from slaughter, has educated women about this issue for years, and really needs your help to get Pfizer to stop abusing horses. 

Given the great achievements of the pharmaceutical industry why an industry giant such as Pfizer, self-described as "the world's largest research-based pharmaceutical company," is not using a safer, more state-of-the-art methodology is morally questionable. 

Pfizer states in their website: 

“We strive to provide access to safe, effective and affordable medicines and related health care services to the people who need them” . . .we are focused on improving the way we do business; on operating with transparency in everything we do. . .”

They have failed in their mission with regard to equine driven estrogen, hence the many lawsuits, and they have driven the horse farms to China and other countries because of the backlash in the United States.  Does this sound like the words, safe, sound and transparent to you?

By signing this petition you will be telling Pfizer to stop abusing horses and putting women’s lives at risk.

Tell Pfizer you do not want them to make products from horse urine, but do want them to make safer, morally correct choices,  in the care of women they say they treat.
