Wollongong Council are calling for submissions to their draft Beaton Park Management Plan by 15 December 2017. The time is now to urge Wollongong City Council to include a 50m indoor swimming pool as part of their Beaton Park Plan of Management.
In an independent study commissioned by Wollongong Council back in 2015, it found that one of the top three most popular physical activities of all ages was swimming.
The current 25m indoor pool at Beaton Park is running over capacity. It was built in a time when there was a much smaller population and it now can’t service the entire community.
Wollongong University pool is also at capacity. There are currently no free swimming lanes in the mornings.
Wollongong is now the 10th largest city in Australia but is the only city in that top 10 that does not have an indoor Olympic 50m pool.
With the population of the Wollongong City Council area continually increasing at a rapid rate we need to keep up with the rest of the Australian cities in terms of amenities and sporting facilities.A 50m indoor heated pool would have economic benefits for the Council and community: land values increase, brings in tourism, health benefits for our community across all age spectrums. A 50m indoor Olympic pool would certainly set Beaton Park as a Centre of Excellence in terms of sporting, fitness and health centres.
Please sign this petition to call on Wollongong City Council to include a 50m indoor swimming pool as part of their Beaton Park Management Plan.
