The Issue

Since the release of Fate Reforged, Magic players have been unable to log into www.gatherer.wizards.com to rate and comment on cards. This has had a slightly negative effect on the community, as now both new and seasoned magic players no longer have a common resource for sharing information about cards. In its heyday, one could log into Gatherer and share card interactions in the comments section of a particular card, as well as assign given cards a ranking, which was useful for deckbuilding.

Now, if you were to go into Gatherer and do an advanced search for cards with a rating above or below a certain score in the range of [0,5], your results would be overloaded with cards that have been printed since Fate Reforged that do not properly belong in the search parameters.

The closest website that has thesaurus and commenting functionality is www.MythicSpoiler.com which requires that one have a Facebook user account to comment. However, MythicSpoiler doesn't have a card-rating system and is not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast, so it is not known to everyone who plays Magic: The Gathering.

When Wizards of the Coast initially announced closing down their forums and shutting down Gatherer's rating and commenting functionality, they cited "the evolving medium of social media" as a perfectly good substitute for the now-bygone player resource, but as of yet there is no website that adequately does what Gatherer used to.

It would be a tremendous service to the community if Wizards of the Coast were to reconsider Gatherer's value to new and seasoned players.

If you're a Magic player and if you agree that Gatherer would be much more useful to the Magic community with its comments and ratings in-tact, please sign the petition.
