The Issue

Kwey Kwey,

Settler Canadians and Indigenous Peoples, the current Liberal government of Canada under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau continues its policies and laws of genocide of the Algonquin Anishinaabe people. In signing this petition and taking on the tasks inherent it is asked that you take the time to learn, think, and act in a way that holds Canada accountable. You hold the power to do this.

Although Canada continues to socialize and convince its citizenry into thinking it has moved into the era of nation-to-nation and reconciliation, this is a bold face lie.

What Canada's calls the 'modern treaty process' is really a 'land claims process' that fails to respect Indigenous rights to land and resources.

While I could go into a lengthy discussion of the history of the treaty process, and examine the land claims policies, explaining how the process has slithered over time, this is not necessary. All we have to do is look at what is happening today at the level of practice to the Algonquins in Ontario:

Canada and Ontario are offering the Algonquins of Ontario (AOO) 1.7% of our traditional territory with NO resource revenue sharing!

Clearly, a nation is not a nation without land and resources!

While all Indigenous Nations are faced with Canada's genocide, the Algonquin genocide is hidden in plain sight for all to see. Canada's parliament buildings, the supreme court of Canada, and the governor general's home all illegally squat on Algonquin land.

Be a witness to Canada's Algonquin genocide by taking on one, two, or all three of these small tasks:

This petition is primarily an awareness building exercise. People have the power but first they need to be educated about Canada's Algonquin genocide.
