Stop Voter Suppression In Wisconsin

The Issue

The Wisconsin state legislature voted to overturn Gov. Tony Evers’s decision to suspend in-person voting and expand absentee ballot opportunities, moving forward with primary elections as scheduled. Despite concerns over public health and mass voter-disenfranchisement, the primaries were held on April 7th with polling locations drastically reduced; limiting the accessibility of voting significantly and causing widespread concern over public health implications. To paint a picture of how disinhibiting the polling consolidations were, the city of Waukesha reduced locations from 15 to 1, representing a 93.34% decrease in available polling locations. Milwaukee, the highest populated city in Wisconsin, reduced polling locations from 180 to just 5, representing a 97.22% reduction. This legislative decision, coupled with the refusal to extend mail-in voting opportunities to accommodate the organizational chaos spurred by COVID-19, will drastically reduce voter participation and effectively disenfranchise thousands. Constituents of the state of Wisconsin were forced to choose between compromising their health and exercising their constitutional right to vote. This overt suppression of Wisconsinites civil liberties transcends partisan politics and represents a pertinent threat to our democracy. No legislative majority should take advantage of a pandemic to consolidate political power by suppressing the votes of the people and endangering the lives of pole workers and citizens alike. It is incumbent upon every republican, democrat, independent, or otherwise to take a stand against the de-facto destruction of our electoral integrity. This decision sets a dangerous precedent for other states without the absentee-voting infrastructure to execute similar By following the link attached you can easily send a personalized or preset message to every single Wisconsin legislative member, urging them to facilitate a recast by absentee ballot or a recast and postponement of in-person voting, to duly accommodate their fears of voting fraud, thus preserving the integrity of the primary election.
