Wisconsin State Legislature, Wisconsin Dept of Public Education: Support Representative Garey Bies' Assembly Bill 123
Wisconsin State Legislature, Wisconsin Dept of Public Education: Support Representative Garey Bies' Assembly Bill 123
The Issue
Currently, all school districts in the state of Wisconsin have an anti-bullying policy. These policies have been enacted throughout Wisconsin since 2010. However, a vital component of the policy has been missing. Some students and parents have reported that teachers have failed to take action when reports of bullying have been made. Students should be assured that not only an appropriate response be made, but also, that there simply be a response.
Representative Bies' Assembly Bill 123 aims to ensure that reported cases of bullying are neither dismissed nor overlooked. Please support the students of the State of Wisconsin by supporting Representative Bies' efforts. The amendment gives substance to the bullying policy. Bullying policy has been enacted for the safety and security of our children. Bullying is not what the teachers perceive it to be, rather it is the perception of the child who reports the bullying. We should not fail our children in failing to act.
