Let Charlotte the deer live and drop the charges against Marvin Graaf
Let Charlotte the deer live and drop the charges against Marvin Graaf
The Issue
Charlotte and her mother were hit by a car 15 months ago. Charlotte survived, even though her mother did not. Marvin Graaf took her in to save her life with the hopes of releasing her back into the wild once she was older and healthy. However during her recovery she became desensitized to both humans and animals on the farm. If released she would walk up to hunters, dogs and coyotes that would all put her life in danger.
For these reasons Walworth County district attorney's office has decided to charge Marvin Graaf with "unauthorized taking of a deer from the wild," threatening him with 8 months in jail and a $2,000 fine. In addition they want to take Charlotte and "humanely euthanize" her.
There is no reason for this to happen. Marvin Graaf is only guilty of trying to help an innocent animal and Charlotte is guilty of being alive. Please sign my petition to allow an exception to rule.
