Celebrated Liverpool artists' model, June Furlong, posed for John Lennon, Lucien Freud and many other students and artists.

In June 2020, she gifted her art collection of paintings to the Williamson Art Gallery & Museum in the Wirral with a signed statement. Some paintings were stored at the museum, but some were still at her house, when she died in November 2020.

Immediately, a "contact" of Hansons Auctioneers took the work stored at her house and rushed it into auction. Charles Hanson, the auctioneer, was informed the work belonged to the Williamson, but ignored this and held the auction anyway. 55 lots raised £42,433 hammer price and made £15,677 for the auctioneer.

This money belongs to the Williamson Art Gallery, i.e. the public.

Wirral Council knew about the auction but failed to stop it. It is up to them now to either retrieve the auctioned work or to claim the money made by the unauthorised sale of this art. It is also up to them to secure the work (by Liverpool and Wallasey artist, George Wallace Jardine), currently stored at the Williamson, and ensure this is not sold as well.

Bob Williams, retired Liverpool gallery owner, said: "The wishes of June Furlong should be carried out for her art collection to be in the Williamson."

Jasmine Surreal, artist born in Wallasey, said: "It's morally and ethically wrong. Of course the paintings should be in the museum. That was the whole intent and purpose of what June said."

Charles Thomson has started this petition. He has worked on art shows at the Walker Art Gallery and View Two gallery, Liverpool, and is researching the work of artist, George Wallace Jardine.
