We, the undersigned, petition the council to keep the land between the New Brighton to Liverpool railway line and Ashville Football Club, known locally as Cross Lane / School Lane playing fields as a designated urban greenspace.

We are trying to gain the support of local residents to ensure the council retain this area as local green space in order to:

* Protect this accessible public space and its continued use as an area for open air recreation.

* Reinstate the area back to its original use as sports pitches to facilitate more grass roots sports for the area’s children.

* Recognise the conservation value of the landscape and protect the wildlife that now inhabit the area following the decision to no longer maintain it as a sports recreation field.

* Stop any inappropriate development of the land that would impact its ability to act as a floodplain in keeping with the need to address the climate emergency that Wirral Borough Council has declared.
