Place an Interim Heritage Order on Karingal, 26 Elizabeth St, Moss Vale immediately

93 year old 'Karingal', 26 Elizabeth Street, Moss Vale in NSW's Southern Highlands is under threat!
A Sydney developer has lodged two development applications to Wingecarribee Shire Council to subdivide this magnificent 1920s property from its beautiful gardens; to keep it on the smallest possible lot and surround it with 7 additional, two storey multi-dwelling townhouses only metres from the road, where its gardens once grew. A double carport will be built in the front of this historic home, and two new driveways constructed onto Elizabeth Street. 21 established trees will be removed and destroyed. Its' extensive gardens, which include a walled rose garden and copses of ornamental trees, and the green streetscape it provides to the Moss Vale locality will be gone forever.
Built by renowned local builder Alf Stephens in 1927 in Elizabeth Street, which itself was constructed for the workers of nearby historic Throsby Estate, Karingal is of great historical significance to Moss Vale, and the broader Southern Highlands local community, in preserving the architectural heritage, street space and aesthetic integrity of our regional town.
We call upon the Wingecarribee Shire Council to place an immediate Interim Heritage Order on Karingal to protect it as a place of heritage significance under immediate threat.
