The Issue

Rather than seeing NEGATIVE posts on Facebook about these babies not getting the proper treatment... wouldn't it make everyone feel so much better to see POSITIVE posts about these babies being treated with warmth, love and, most of all, RESPECT?SIGN THIS PETITION today to put an end to the HORRIBLE ANIMAL ABUSE that we literally see being put on display every single day.All over the city of Windsor, there are dogs being left outside at all times of the day and night. Especially under these sort of weather conditions, these dogs could easily freeze to death. There are dogs that will bark all night and the owner doesn't do a thing. This proves a HIGH form of NEGLECT. These poor dogs only have their food, water and the "warmth" of their wooden dog houses. They are lonely, cold and in need of proper CARE and LOVE from proper dog owners. If these dogs end up getting the treatment and LOVING HOMES they deserve, just knowing they are happy and treated well will help me and others around the community sleep more peacefully at night. It is sickening to know there are poor little fur babies being treated like scum when they deserve to be treated just as any other member of the family! Do what you can to help, sign the petition, look for animal abuse around your neighbourhood.. and we can hopefully make a difference with what little hope we have left. Thank you.

We are aware of this situation, and our animal welfare officers have taken a number of steps to force the owner to make improvements. At this time the owner is complying with every law (federal, provincial, and municipal) that we have to enforce. We understand that this is far from an ideal situation for the dogs, and it’s not how we would like to see dogs have to live. But as much as we would like to, we can’t enforce our ideals - only the laws that are in place, and at this point the owner is not breaking any laws. We can't legally remove someone's animals when they aren't violating any laws. We are regularly monitoring the situation, and will continue to do so. We worked with the City of Windsor last year to pass one of the strongest municipal animal welfare laws in Ontario. Unlike in many Ontario municipalities, tethering a dog for more than 4 hours a day is illegal in Windsor, and an owner can be fined for doing so. When we first became involved with this situation the dogs were being chained up all day, but because we had the new by-law to enforce we were able to get the dogs off their chains. We are working hard to encourage other area municipalities to pass tethering limits (Essex, Kingsville, LaSalle and Amherstburg have already done so). One concrete step that you can take is to help us pass tethering limits in Tecumseh, Leamington, and Lakeshore. Contacting friends and family in those municipalities and asking them to ask their Councillors to support a law like Windsor’s may not help these two dogs, but it will make a lot of other dogs’ lives better.
