While WinCo promised several years ago to get the hens in their supply chains out of cages, they have failed to publicly report any progress towards achieving this goal.

My family has five chickens at our home in Oregon and it is horrific to compare the lives of battery hens to my happy, flapping, dust-bathing friends. WinCo can no longer sell caged eggs in Oregon because they are not legally allowed to do so. WinCo needs to be held accountable to their own promise to stop selling eggs from hens in battery cages in all the states in which they operate.

The chickens in WinCo's egg supply chains suffer in filthy cages that are so cramped, they cannot even spread their wings. No being should spend their entire life being prevented from fully extending their limbs. The hens in WinCo's supply chain cannot engage in basic, natural behaviors like nesting and perching. For their entire lives, they never experience the warmth of the sun on their bodies or the feeling of grass beneath their feet. Instead, they spend their dramatically shortened lives in squalid, cramped conditions and suffer psychological distress and physical ailments. The size of the cages that these hens live their entire lives in is comparable to the size of a home microwave.
