Lower the speed limit to 30mph through Mile Elm, Calne.
The Issue
We are a community concerned about road safety and speeding on the A3102 at Mile Elm. A survey conducted in 2009 found that our stretch of the A3102 had the highest accident collision rate of the whole of the road from Melksham to Wotton Bassett. The speed limit was subsequently reduced from 60mph to 50mph. However, there have been several major accidents on this road since including a fatality in March 2014. The Mile Elm bends are known to the community and police as an accident black spot and yet Wiltshire County Council have made minimal improvements to signage which have proved ineffectual. On monday 13th June 2016, a passenger of a vehicle was taken to GWH and subsequently transferred to The John Radcliffe Hospital with serious head injuries. This is not the first serious accident nor will it be the last until something is done to prevent another fatality. We feel a reduction in the speed limit is the only answer to prevent another family suffering the injury or loss of a loved one. Please support the change to help make Mile Elm safer!
