We did it! 4 months and 2,251 signatures later, the day we've been waiting for has finally come. The Salisbury ETRO, otherwise known as 'People Friendly Streets', will be suspended indefinitely from the end of this month. You can read Wiltshire Council's statement on the scheme here: https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/news/people-friendly-salisbury-scheme-suspended-indefinitely
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all. There are far too many petitions on here which go unheard. However, your constant support for our cause, and your dedication and passion for Salisbury, have meant we've been able to claim this moment of victory.
But this is no time to rest on our laurels. There's plenty more to do, from reforming the consultation process used by Wiltshire Council on schemes such as this, to holding the Council's feet to the fire on working with Highways England to finally resolve the perennial issue for our medieval city - the endless traffic plaguing the A36.
I'm confident that, with your commitment and passion, we'll be successful in making Salisbury a better, greener, and more inclusive place for everyone who lives in, visits, or - most importantly - loves this wonderful city of ours.
Once again, a tremendous thanks to you all!
