Sunday, the ninth of August at 5:50 Pm poor 5 year old Cannon Hinnant was fatally shot in the head by his neighbor. The boy was doing what any other child would be doing, riding his bike. His neighbor charged out of his house to the boy before pulling out a hand gun and point blank shooting the boy in his head.

Darius Sessoms, a 25 year old man who had no problems with his neighbors ended a young boys life. The night prior the father of Cannon had Darius and his parents over for dinner saying "The Lord says to love our neighbor. I have plenty of food to go around. I just wanted to be nice." Quickly after he shot him he fled the scene by getting in his car and driving away. His father rushed out to what he thought was his young boy on the ground after falling off his bike. When he looked to see the boy lifeless with a bullet in his head he scooped him up. The father sat there with his son pleading out loud. "I screamed, 'Somebody, please help me save my son! Help me save my son, please,'" he said. He saw the murder flee in his car. He said he was full of rage but didn’t want to leave his son.

What did this poor child do to have his life halted, ended. Darius was charged with first degree murder. I find the only suitable punishment to be that of the death penalty. To end a young child’s life so early should only be reciprocated by the ending of his life. The death penalty is legal in North Carolina with the last one being in 2016.
