Stop Echo Farms Development. Preserve Wilmington GREEN-SPACE!
The Issue
The city of Wilmington and specifically Echo Farms /River road area is currently experiencing an explosive level of growth. At the same time, Schools are overcrowded, roads are beyond capacity and greenspace is disappearing at an alarming rate. Wilmington park space per resident is 50% of norms for similar cities and was the #1 concern in recent citizen survey.
Currently there are thousands of homes under construction within a 3 mile radius of Echo Farms and nearly every available significant plot of land is under assault. Recently, Matrix Inc has filed plans to close the entire EF golf course and replace it with 625 mostly multi family housing units.
139 tree lined acres with numerous ponds, marshes, & tidal creeks; abundant birds & wildlife; miles of bike & walking paths; and tennis & swim facilities will be lost forever.
Therefore, We are requesting our elected officials take all available action including Park Bond Funds to stop development and preserve this Greenspace in some form for the enjoyment and recreational use of the citizens of Wilmington.
