Willow Fork Drainage District started this petition to Texas Department of Transportation

Please help Willow Fork Drainage District (WFDD) improve connectivity and provide Safe Routes to School in the community! WFDD is proposing to construct two (2) pedestrian underpasses to allow for continuous trails underneath Westheimer and Cinco Ranch Blvd.

We need your help to show community support for our grant application to Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) as part of their Safe Routes to School program. By signing this petition, you will join others in the community demonstrating the need and local support to help improve our chances of receiving grant funding to build these great projects!

THE DETAILS

The grant application seeks funding for the construction of two pedestrian underpasses located at Westheimer Parkway, west of Cinco Ranch Boulevard and at Cinco Ranch Boulevard, south of Westheimer Parkway. Due to the volume of traffic on Westheimer Parkway and Cinco Ranch Boulevard, these underpasses are being considered in lieu of mid-block crossings.

These underpasses will serve the community in general and would have the following benefits:

  • Katy ISD does not bus students who live within 0.50 miles of the property boundary of elementary schools or within 1.00 miles of the property boundary of junior and senior high schools.  As part of a greater connected trail network within the district, these underpasses would allow many students, faculty and staff within this radius safely and efficiently walk and bike to school;
  • In conjunction with the rest of the WFDD trail system, allow for safe bike commuting to the La Centerra mixed-use development, the Energy Corridor District in Houston and the future Katy Boardwalk mixed-use development;
  • Provide safe access for area residents to enjoy the La Centerra shops and restaurants, Willow Fork Park - a 32-acre regional park, Fort Bend Co. Cinco Ranch Library, WFDD Central Green outdoor performing arts stage and the future Katy Boardwalk;
  • These underpasses and trails also will provide residents access to the future TxDOT Bike Tourism route which is planned to follow the Westpark Tollway corridor west to Austin and east to Houston and beyond.  Access to this corridor is provided from the WFDD trail system via sidewalks on the west side of Mason Rd. (0.70 miles), on both sides of Peek Rd (1.6 miles) and Spring Green Blvd (2.2 miles).
