Hi Beach Lovers,
The development application has now been lodged and anyone can lodge an objection.
You can see the plans for yourself here.
I've sent in an objection and I encourage you to also take advantage of the process and have your say.
My objection is cut and pasted below:
I object to the current plans for the redevelopment of WSLSC. In particular the plans do not comply with
Lifesaving Victoria's 'Facilities of the Future' guidelines and:
1) don't provide a high tower with visibility of the whole beach and The Crystal Steps.
2) don't provide lifesaving facilities for boats, patrol, nippers and first-aid at the approximate midway
mark of the beach.
3) don't provide any significant improvements to public facilities or access.
The current development application seems to:
1) Expand the footprint of the current fenced-off site.
2) Decrease public carparking and make public access to the busy western end of the beach more
congested.
3) Create a back-lane, industrial-style precinct on the front streetscape facing Esplanade and Victoria St.
You can see from the picture I have posted from the plans, there is a new men's toilet and a new women's toilet on Esplanade, near The Kiosk, but that's it for the public.
There are three private lawns and a function centre.
There is a line of high roller doors along the streetscape.
There is less room for the public at the crowded western end in these proposals.
It looks like this project is primarily building a private social club with some lifesaving facilities tacked on, behind.
The under-utilised pool remains an ugly fenced-off blight on the Williamstown beachfront.
Anyway, have your say now because anyone can lodge an objection.
cheers
Jason
