Boston College call to action

The Issue

We, the student body, demand that the Boston College administration upgrade and improve their current COVID-19 protocols. The rise in the positivity rate over the last week is extremely concerning for not only students but faculty at Boston College. The current administration has placed blame on the student body- even with extremely inadequate testing and policies. Boston College should either place all students in a mandatory 2-week quarantine to stop this current spread and ensure that the semester does not end abruptly OR suspend all in-person classes for at least 2 weeks. BC has also failed to follow suit behind other major Boston universities, which are testing all of their students at higher rates. We demand that all BC students living on or off-campus are tested twice a week and that testing is available every day and not just during the weekdays. Boston College needs to have better communication within its departments regarding those in quarantine and isolation. Contact tracing personnel should be calling those exposed to positives within a reasonable amount of time from the positive result to limit exposure. Res-life should be contacting those placed into in-room quarantines at the start of their quarantine regarding specific procedures. Counseling Services should be calling all students in isolation and quarantine regardless of test results to check in on mental health daily. It is unacceptable that BC has placed efforts into hiring Boston Police to patrol students rather than placing efforts into proper and more effective guidelines, policies, and testing to keep students safe. Also, we demand that athletic teams without fall seasons halt all training. - 2k room 712
