The Issue

Police brutality has been an issue for many years. From the "Harlem Race Riot" to the "Stonewall Riots" of the 1960's and current events, such as the death of Eric Gardner (NYC), Michael Brown (Ferguson, MO) and the recent "undercover attack" on innocent patrons at Bottom Bracket Social Club (San Antonio, TX), these instances are taking a toll on the United States people, as a whole.

When something like this happens, there isn't always time to pull out a device to record the occurrence and in some situations, the individual who is documenting it is looked down upon, but how else will we know? How else will we know that our people, our friends and family, are being harassed, beaten, degraded and stripped of their rights? It's horrifying and disgusting, to watch these videos and feel the helplessness of the ones being attacked.

It's saddening to know that we, as a community can do nothing about this. We no longer have a voice and the ones, who are supposed to be protecting us, are hurting us. Please join me in supporting the movement to enforce all SAPD Police officers to assume on-body cameras, to prevent tragedies like these, from happening.

I do not believe that all policemen/women are the same and I do not believe that they all condone the actions of other officers, who are demonstrating violence. I've seen police officers step in, when they feel another officer has crossed a boundary and I've seen others stand back and even participate. These on-body cameras will enhance the overall protection of both the officer and the offender. I feel that this should be enforced in all parts of the U.S and even parts of the globe, but beginning a local petition is the first step in achieving protection on a much larger scale.
