Postpone Cal State Los Angeles' In-Person "Graduation Ceremony"

This petition is to request that the CSULA 2020/2021 graduation ceremony be postponed. The University of California State Los Angeles over the past few months has been trying to have an in-person graduation ceremony for the graduating classes of 2020 and 2021. Because of the global situation there has been much uncertainty as to what would transpire and what decision the university was going to reach. As of today May 4, 2021 the university sent out an email stating the details of the "ceremony".
- No guests will be permitted to attend
- Each graduate will be seated with a 6 foot radius
- Names will not be read during the ceremony
- Walking the stage, handshaking, and hooding (for graduate students) are not part of the ceremony
While the University tried with securing the venue, the requirements are hardly any form of enjoyable graduation for all our accomplishments and hard work. At the very least not having ones mother and father attend is a major disappointment for students and families. With no reduction in tuition over the past year and a half where many families struggled even with aid, this is not an acceptable end for students and families to enjoy the completion of a major milestone in life. We are asking California State University Los Angeles and University president William A. Covino to postpone this ceremony to a date where a more appropriate graduation ceremony can be had and enjoyed by students and at least two family members of their choice.
