In light of CoVID-19 forcing us to move to online classes, students' grades will be a direct reflection of their home circumstances, not academic potential. Students should not have a lower GPA because they do not have access to the resources that make it necessary to succeed in their education. Even though all students have the option to credit/no credit some classes this semester, it still creates dissonance between students who have the environment and resources to succeed and those who do not. By making all classes credit/no credit, students are placed on an even academic playing field even if they are in different environments. Professors and students alike did not ask for these circumstances and it is unfair to proceed with grading as though nothing has changed. Specifically at Willamette, students expect to be very engaged in their classes with a lot of face to face contact with their professors and peers. Due to this pandemic, we students understand that this is no longer possible, however demand that grading reflects these changes.
