Will Reichard’s Field Goal Should Not Count as a Miss

The Issue

On October 5, 2025, in the Vikings vs. Browns game in London, the Minnesota Vikings attempted a 51-yard field goal with Will Reichard in the fourth quarter, aiming to tie the game at 17. The kick was called “no good,” and Browns gained possession accordingly.

However, video replays clearly show that the ball struck a wire supporting the Skycam system overhead — an external factor unrelated to Reichard’s execution. According to NFL Rule 9, Section 1, Article 11, if a ball strikes equipment such as a camera wire during a play, the play should be immediately stopped and replayed from the previous spot. In this case, that rule was not enforced, and the play was allowed to stand as a missed field goal.

Will Reichard has been a model of accuracy and consistency. He is chasing a perfect season, and having this “miss” recorded against him is not an accurate reflection of his performance or the truth of the play.

We, the undersigned, respectfully call on the NFL, officiating department, and game record keepers to:

  1. Review the footage of the field goal
  2. Acknowledge that the ball struck on-field equipment
  3. Amend the official record so that this kick is not counted as a true miss.

Fairness and accuracy matter for the integrity of the game, and for players like Will Reichard who give their all every week. Thank you
