Make Kathore a protected sanctuary
The Issue
Kathore is a hidden gem for native and migratory wildlife just a few minutes drive outside of one of the biggest and busiest cities on Earth, Karachi, Pakistan.
Encroachment from neighbouring housing projects and unmonitored hunting could mean not just the loss of the wildlife that calls Kathore home but also the people that have relied on its lands for numerous decades.
It is for this reason that Kathore desperately needs to be made a protected sanctuary where hunting and fishing should not be allowed as it is home to not just native Pakistani species but foreign migratory populations too. If protected Kathore could become the first ever dedicated ec-tourist spot in Pakistan which could be turned into a self-sustainable national heritage with rest houses for guests and guided tours for all visitors among other services.
Sindh would benefit because of increased investment due to tourist activities in the area, the people of Kathore and neighbouring areas would benefit because there would be an increase in jobs to provide for the tourists to this area (safaris, camera rentals, restaurants, rest houses, guides, security, park rangers etc.) and they would also get electricity and shipments of much needed goods from the main cities surrounding it which they currently do not. The wildlife of course would thrive and the world could see increased populations of even endangered species like the Egyptian vulture (which also reside in Kathore) in as little as five years!
This can be made a reality just by your signature!
