Dear All, It has been some time since the convicted fraudster David Mchugh who fraudulently obtained the Fleece Hotel had tried to open an illegal nightclub - Crofters Nightclub - until we the community stopped it. Since the license was revoked and the fraudster absconded and as the new owner had been duped I made it a personal mission to do all I can to support the new owner for our community to help bring the building back into use asap. I have advised and supported the new owner and in helping to keep the building as safe as possible. You may be aware that planning permission has been granted to convert the building into eleven high class apartments. I am pleased to report that a buyer has been found who intends to proceed with the buildings redevelopment - subject to contract. Contracts are now being drafted. The exterior of the Fleece Hotel will broadly remain the same, improvements to doors and windows etc. It is hoped the conversion works will commence very soon. Once I have further information I will let you know. Mchugh who dishonestly obtained the Fleece Hotel has gone on the run and Cheshire Police are appealing for his whereabouts. Further details to follow. Further Note I have decided to stand in this year's local elections on May 3rd to be your Independent Councillor for Ashton ward. It is my firm belief that our town centre is suffering a saturation of takeaways and other licensed premises because of Wigan Council's mismanagement. I have pledged to local residents that if elected, I will pursue the introduction of a Cumulative Impact Zone for Ashton Town Centre to stop the ever increasing number of licensed premises to ensure existing businesses are able to survive, to reduce anti-social behaviour and to encourage new and different independent enterprises into our town.
