Update on Fleece - License revoked. Owners have appealed to Wigan Magistrates Court. Pre-hearing was today. Under Licensing Act they are allowed to continue trading until appeal is heard. I will keep you updated. Wigan Council has received an application to convert Savoy Beds at 2C Warrington Rd into a booze shop. Pictured enclosed. I am in no doubt if this proposal is accepted it will create immense problems for our local community. It will undoubtedly shift large groups of youths from other parts of Ashton Town Centre pursuing proxy sales of alcohol and using open spaces nearby to consume. Members of the local community are able to object but the closing date is imminent 31st January. Send your email to licensing@wigan.gov.uk You must give your name and address. Your objection must be associated to the Licensing Objectives which are :- Prevention of crime and disorder. Prevention of children from harm. Prevention of Public Nuisance. Public Safety. The application details are as follows :- Extra Food & Booze, 2C Warrington Rd, Ashton, WN4 9PL. Applicant - Mohamad Ali. Saliant points are:- Too many licensed premises already in a concentrated area. Under age drinking is a significant issue in Ashton. The proposed premises are on a major walking route to two of the towns high schools. Hazardous road junction, illegal parking and slamming of doors for local residents. Wigan Council's own Director of public health, Professor Kate Ardern states that Wigan's high incidence of alcohol abuse should be reflected in the granting of fewer licensed premises. You can copy me in if you wish at mouldingmichael@gmail.com Please support your local community, help to protect it and object immediately. Deadline 31st January. Thanking you Mike Moulding
