However, their own Facebook page is now asking us to boycott the venue ? - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Crofters/1435425423431470?fref=ts I have received additional information. It is not my intentions to deliberately cause harm to a longstanding Ashton business "The Fleece". The Crofters NightClub was a venue for young people similar to "Old Mary's" despite associates saying otherwise. It will/would be a disaster for local residents. Their resident DJ does the "underground" in Warrington which I have been aware from the beginning. The difference is this proposed venue is overground in a residential community and in a venue not even soundproofed. Totally inappropriate. Astonishingly, this crazy idea got a licence from Wigan Council - At least 4.00 am, were set to open and no-one realised they needed planning permission until I intervened. Wigan Council's excuse - It is difficult to differentiate between a pub and a nightclub ? They need to get their act together and start thinking about impacts on local communities of such ridiculous licences. I intervened because the local community, Ashton and the town deserves protection from the repercussions of unwanted and extreme activities in the wrong location. Ashton has enough problems and deserves better. I have escalated my complaint at Wigan Council because residents deserve better. The Crofters NightClub could be open with serious consequences that we have to deal with afterwards. Residents should all be notified by Wigan Council when a pub near them applies for such licences before decisions are made. I know many responsible, community led and supported pubs and landlords in Ashton which see this as the right thing to do. Well managed pubs are well supported by the community. They are part of the community. We will see what develops but lets hope this crazy idea goes no further. Will keep you informed. Best wishes Mike Moulding
