Wider range of sexual health education in schools and colleges in the uk.
The Issue
In schools, sex education is mainly laughed at. I want young people to become more informed on sexual decisions they would make. Specifically education on STI`s , abortions and LGBT+ sex. There has been a rise in antibiotic resistant syphilis and gonorrhoea in the UK as of 2025. There is not enough education on the mental effects of abortion, therefore, causing people to see it as an easy way out of pregnancy. Abortion is a medical necessity and is a human right, however there is not enough support for those who have gone through it, and there is not enough education on the effects, it has caused me personally trauma that will last a life time due to improper knowledge and improper support on the topic. Also many LGBT+ youths do not pay attention in sexual education classes as is due to it being a mainly straight topic taught. Sexual education is a right that everyone deserves to be taught. If we get more education into schools this means a decrease in abortions in young girls. I am not against abortion I am against the traumatising of girls due to improper education. It will also help to decrease the spread of STI`s which is rapidly increasing in students, both straight and LGBT+. I am nearly 18 and I have personally experienced and witnessed unnecessary panic in people aged 15-18 due to improper sexual education. I would also like more 18 and under sexual health centres to open. Due to the closing of my local brook in the Wirral, there have been less teenagers accessing vital sexual health care. Something needs to change.
