"YOU CAN'T TRAVEL THAT ROAD WITHOUT FEAR."

That is what residents told KENS 5 News last night. And KENS 5 showed up — again. This is their second story on SH 46 West in two weeks.

Here is where things stand right now:

Both Bandera County and Kendall County have now formally demanded TxDOT deliver a safety plan with firm timelines for every mile of SH 46 West. Every commissioner in both counties voted yes.

TxDOT has committed $7 million for intersection upgrades and confirmed a feasibility study for a potential four-lane divided highway. Those are steps forward.

But here is what has not changed: not one dollar of committed spending will stop a vehicle from crossing the center line. 101 opposite-direction crashes on this corridor since 2016. Drivers crossing into oncoming traffic. Eight of the thirteen people killed died that way. Until there is something physical between opposing lanes of traffic, the crash type that is killing people has not been addressed.

Yesterday morning — the day after Kendall County passed its resolution — there was another crash on SH 46 West.

This road does not wait for paperwork.

Five news outlets have now covered this story. Two county governments are on record. Four state legislators are engaged. And 1,160 of you signed this petition and refused to let this be ignored.

Stay in contact with your county commissioners. Both Bandera and Kendall County commissioners are now in active coordination with TxDOT and will be receiving updates on the safety plan and timelines. Ask them what TxDOT is telling them.
