Why Blame the Girl For What They Wear, Instead of Telling Boys to Fix Their Stares

The Issue

They pull students out of class to measure the width of their straps,

While others stay at their desks, filling in the gaps.

They say a chosen outfit is a distraction to the room,

Creating a culture of judgment rather than room to bloom.

But education shouldn’t stop because of what someone wears,

The lesson isn't in the clothes, it's in how the system cares.

Shift the burden off the student and put it on the rules,

Teach equality instead of outdated tools.

My jeans aren’t broken, your policy is.

Me and my friend Emme made this petition because we have long arms and she has short legs. Our policy is fingertip length, but it isn’t fair. They should measure us  by not our arms length, but by how far up from the knee. We also think the rules are quite sexist here at Dixon Middle School. Here are some examples.

  • Fingertip Length shorts
  • No Leggings unless shirt is covering
  • No tight shorts
  • no crop tops (which I understand)
  • No holes in jeans

Please, help us change these rules. We hope to get at least 150! Thank you for reading.
