Reopen Ingleside Birth Centre – Let Salford Babies Be Born in Salford for Our 2026 Centenary!

To:
Salford City Council (Mayor Paul Dennett)
NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board
Bolton NHS Foundation Trust
Secretary of State for Health and Social Care

2026 marks 100 years since Salford became a city.

Yet no babies are being born in Salford facilities because Ingleside Birth Centre remains closed for births since 2022 due to midwifery staffing issues.

This forces expectant mothers to travel outside the city (to Manchester, Bolton, etc.), causing stress, costs, and inconvenience.

Reopening Ingleside would be a perfect centenary celebration: safe, local midwife-led births, restored community pride, and new Salfordians truly “born in Salford.”

We call for:

Urgent recruitment of midwives to safely reopen in 2026
Prioritising Ingleside in the 2026/27 maternity services review
A clear timeline and funding commitment now
Sign this petition to support bringing birthing services back to Salford this historic year!
