WHS Graduation Changes
The Issue
This is an official petition concerning and including but not limited to: Wenatchee High School Graduating Class of 2027 and the Wenatchee School District School Board.
On September 18, 2026 at approximately 11:30am, Donna Moser of Wenatchee High School announced that there will be a "change of tradition" at graduation and students will only be allowed to adorn three colored stoles at graduation (10 dollars a piece) for the achievements, clubs, and extra curricular activities they participated in throughout their 4 years at WHS. She informed us that the colored cords as well are only to be worn for academic achievements like GPA and not clubs, which hundreds of students have spent countless hours and money to be in. At our high school, students are heavily encouraged to be in clubs and get involved, but in the end, the students believe that the administrators want to strip this away from these students who truly love what they do.
When confronted with the time to ask questions at the assembly, Donna Moser called on a few students and hastily answered questions. People were audibly upset. One student in particular, raised his hand to say that it doesn't seem fair to students who have worked this hard to show off their achievements for 2 hours, one night a year at graduation, and then proceeded to ask if any students were consulted.
Donna Moser then states that it's a change of tradition and “we could talk later,” moving quickly to the next question as many students boo'ed and started getting more upset. Seeing this, Moser sent the whole auditorium to lunch 20 minutes early, implying she didn't want any more questions to be asked. Admin refused to explain their reasoning behind these decisions, making many students feel unsupported and not considered within the decision process.
We, the class of 2027 and others from Westside, Eastmont and Wenatchee High School will use our materials and rights to fight for what we believe is right, and for what we believe should have been heard in the first place.
