Nationwide there is currently 2,562,000 children being raised by family members not the children's parents. Opioids and mental illness being the biggest reasons.

Many of these families are not getting the financial help they need. Most over the age of 50 and even greater numbers of people over the age of sixty raising not just one child but some up to five or more saving millions of dollars in each state. 

Many kids taken from their parents by child protective services and brought to live with their grandparents. Child protective services then step away and the Grandfamiles are left to fend for themselves. 

As if that’s not enough, Grandfamilies go for guardianship or adoption because its very clear they will be raising these kids the rest of their lives and they end up with expensive and stressful court battles. Many courts put these Kids in traumatized situations with forcing them to see their drug or mentally ill families despite what trauma its doing to them. 
 
Its time for major changes. All grandfamilies biological or not get financial help across the board and if parents do not get help within a year then these grand families can adopt without court battle.
