White Coat ceremony for Dentistry in Szeged
The Issue
Petition for the Introduction of a White Coat Ceremony at the University of Szeged
The White Coat Ceremony is a long-standing tradition celebrated by many medical, dental, and healthcare universities around the world. It symbolizes the beginning of students’ professional journey and serves as a meaningful reminder of the values, responsibilities, and commitment that come with entering the healthcare profession.
As one of Hungary’s most respected universities, the University of Szeged has built an excellent international reputation by welcoming students from all over the world. Introducing a White Coat Ceremony would be a wonderful opportunity to further strengthen this reputation while embracing a tradition that is already established in many universities, both in Hungary and internationally.
Although such a ceremony has not been organized at our university in the past, every meaningful tradition begins somewhere. We believe this could become a lasting part of the University’s history and a memorable experience for future generations of students.
This ceremony would foster a stronger sense of belonging, unity, and professionalism among students while creating a special moment that many would remember throughout their careers. It would also reinforce the values of compassion, responsibility, and dedication that the University seeks to instill in future healthcare professionals.
We fully understand that organizing such an event requires time and effort. For this reason, many students are willing to volunteer and actively contribute to the planning and organization of the ceremony, in collaboration with the University, in order to minimize the additional workload for faculty and administrative staff.
Several leading Hungarian universities, including Semmelweis University and the University of Pécs, already organize a White Coat Ceremony for their medical and dental students. We hope the University of Szeged will consider joining this meaningful tradition that celebrates the beginning of students’ clinical journey.
Through this petition, we respectfully ask the Dean and the University leadership to consider the possibility of introducing a White Coat Ceremony. We submit this request with great respect and appreciation for everything the University already provides, and we sincerely hope this proposal will be seen as an opportunity to enrich the student experience and further strengthen the University’s traditions.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
