The Australian Culinary Federation (ACF) needs your HELP!
This is your chance to support ACT Government funding for Certificate lV in Commercial Cookery and help strengthen our industry.
The ACT Government has been funding Certificate III in Commercial Cookery for some time now, however, no funding has ever been offered for Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery. The ACT Government, through Skills Canberra, are currently seeking industry input into the development of the 2017 ACT Skills Needs List. This list will determine what qualifications are funded in the ACT for 2017 and the ACF are of the firm belief Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery should be on the list.
From our numerous conversations with ACT culinary industry professionals it is very clear they are all suffering from labour and skills shortages that are crippling the industry and having a detrimental impact on the quality of the overall ACT culinary offering.
We have also noticed another worrying trend occurring in industry. This is the rapid promotion of young cooks into managerial roles in the kitchen where they don’t have the necessary skills and experience to handle the added responsibilities and pressures. Consequently, these budding industry professionals often burn out quickly and sadly leave our industry for good.
We need to find better ways to prepare our industry, especially younger professionals, for the realities and pressures of a modern day commercial kitchen.
The ACF is of the firm belief that, if the ACT Government were to offer Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery as a funded pathway it would lead to significant industry benefit and provide an excellent return on taxpayer spend.
This petition is your chance to be involved and have an influence on the future of our industry by supporting recently qualified Certificate lll level cooks, the opportunity of government funded pathways, to progress through Certificate lV level qualifications.
If you agree, please sign this petition and share. Your contribution will benefit the further education of industry professionals, assist in providing leadership for future apprentices, provide opportunity for employment advancement and help secure long lasting successful careers in an industry that is currently experiencing chronic labour and skills shortages.
