The Wheaton Planning and Zoning Board will be holding a public hearing on TUESDAY, July 13, 2021 at 7:00 pm in the Council Chambers of the Wheaton City Hall, 303 W. Wesley  St. in person and via zoom at https:us02web.zoom.us/l/84999755261 or dial 312 626.6799, Meeting ID 849 9975 5261, Passcode 297314 to consider a zoning application requesting the construction of a gas station with 7 fuel dispensers on the NW corner of Main and Roosevelt (in lieu of an existing employee parking lot).  NO!!!  

Is another gas station what this community needs at the gateway to our community? Behind the stone Wheaton sign, Marianos intends to take out all landscaping, cut down mature trees and build a 7 fuel dispenser gas station that would sit right in front of 6 brand new pickleball courts.  

Not only would this be unsightly, but it would be injecting the risk of UST (underground storage tank) leakage/contamination in the park-like downtown area. 

The city is working diligently to create a more welcoming downtown and the community surrounding the downtown area supports making it pedestrian friendly.  Another gas station is not within the desired scope of the downtown project!  Why build a beautiful park-like area in front of Marianos if a gas station is all there will be to look at?  Speak out citizens!  Neighbors, let your voices be heard!
