Hmong American Sunisa Lee is our new Olympic All-Around gymnastics champion with a total score of 57.433! For the fifth consecutive Olympics, since 2004, an American has won gold in gymnastics all-around. Suni is the first Hmong American gymnast to compete at the Olympics, and now she is the first Hmong American to win a gold medal. 

Suni’s path to gold wasn’t easy. In addition to the stress and pressure of competing, her gym closed due to the pandemic, she lost two family members to covid, she endured a broken foot, and her father — and biggest cheerleader — was partially paralyzed from an accident in 2019.
