The Issue

Vintage sellers on Whatnot have been shouting into a void — and it isn't our shows. It's the category tree.

Whatnot's own Discovery team wrote in March 2026 that its taxonomy "shapes onboarding, browse, search, and recommendations." In plain terms: the categories decide who finds you.

Right now, Antiques, Vintage & Ephemera has four subcategories: Antiques, Ephemera & Postcards, Postage Stamps, and Vintage Decor. That's the entire home for two centuries of glassware, pottery, textiles, barware, holiday and advertising pieces — and most of it lands in the same box.

Compare that to other categories. A coin listing asks for composition, year, mint, mint mark, strike type and grade. A sports card asks for team, athlete and autograph. A vintage listing has no maker field, no era field, no pattern field, no material field. A Pyrex pattern is at least as specific as a mint mark — nobody built the field.

Whatnot has already solved this once. When Labubu surged in 2025, it was filed under Toys and "new users struggled to find relevant shows." Whatnot moved it to the first page of onboarding, and it "helped the category explode." Whatnot also says it adds categories weekly and rebuilt its tools so changes like this can happen fast.

So this is an ask, not a complaint. We're asking Whatnot to give vintage the Labubu treatment:

  1. Real subcategories. Split vintage into the lanes collectors actually shop: Glassware, Pottery & Ceramics, Kitchenware, Linens & Textiles, Lighting, Barware, Holiday, Advertising.
  2. Four attribute fields: Maker, Era/Decade, Pattern, Material — so vintage listings work the way mint and year do for coins.
  3. Onboarding placement. Put the big vintage lanes on the first onboarding page, so new collectors can find vintage shows without already knowing where to look.

Every one of these already exists for other categories. We're not asking to be treated specially — we're asking to be treated like Labubu.

If you sell vintage on Whatnot, or love buying it there, please sign and share. The more names behind this list, the harder it is to overlook.
