Support Your Boating Rights
In June 2019, Whatcom County Council unnecessarily reduced the usable boating space on Lake Samish (WA), down to only approximately 60% of the lake's water surface area. They established an excessive no-wake zone extending out a staggering half-mile from a bridge and increased the dock / shoreline setback distance significantly.
This was passed on June 4, 2019, unopposed by any citizens, as Whatcom County residents were unaware of the proposed ordinance. This is how your boating rights are decreased over time.
A grassroots group of Lake Samish residents has worked to develop a new ordinance to right the wrong that was passed on June 4, 2019. The new ordinance to reverse the drastic changes made in June 2019, is AB-2019-480.
ACTION - A FINAL up or down vote for AB-2019-480 is scheduled by the Whatcom County Council. The meeting will be held on Tuesday January 28, 2020 starting at 7:00 PM. You can attend that meeting and show / voice your support for AB-2019-480. Please attend this one meeting, as this vote is critical for boaters.
