Whataburger, end the cruelty and go cage-free!

The Issue

With 670 locations in Texas and hundreds more nationwide, Whataburger is a go-to fast food restaurant in my state. As a Texan, I’m writing from Whataburger’s home state to talk about an important issue: the animal welfare priorities of the company.

Whataburger’s website shows no progress on its cage-free egg pledge. In fact, it shows no animal welfare policies at all.

Recently, consumers are growing more concerned about the cruel treatment of animals in the food industry, and rightfully so! Companies like Whataburger are hiding brutal truths. Egg-laying hens are kept in small, overcrowded cages and denied everything that is natural to them. They experience stress, boredom, and severe health issues. It is crucial that companies take responsibility for their impact on animals and the environment.

While I appreciate that Whataburger has taken the first step towards improving animal welfare by saying they will start transitioning into sourcing cage-free eggs, they have not been transparent about their progress. Whataburger has the possibility to be a leader in the food industry again by prioritizing animal welfare. By taking these concerns seriously and showing progress, Whataburger can commit to making a positive impact on animals and sustainability.

Whataburger, please publish a 100% cage-free egg policy and provide public updates on your progress toward achieving this commitment!

Suffering birds can’t wait any longer for change, and neither will your customers.
