What poway needs

The Issue

Hi, I’m a Poway resident living just across Pomerado from The Farm development. Like many of my neighbors, I was really hopeful about Measure H—a proposal that would have brought a large, modern gym with pools, a café, and amenities right in our backyard. Sadly, Measure H was defeated, and now we’re stuck without anything close to that vision.

I used to live in Broomfield, Colorado, where the community had Paul Derda Recreation Center, an amazing facility with everything from waterslides, a lazy river, and a kids club, to a full gym, game rooms, and an on-site café. It was a true hub for families, teens, seniors, and everyone in between. That kind of center brought people together, encouraged healthy lifestyles, and gave kids a safe, fun place to hang out.

Poway doesn’t have anything like that. We have scattered parks, a small community center mainly for seniors, and a swim center with a basic outdoor pool. That’s it. No big gym, no water features, no real community hub where people can gather, play, and stay active close to home.

I’m starting this petition because Poway deserves a real community rec center—something that offers more than just a gym or a pool, but a space that brings our neighborhoods together, supports youth activities, promotes health, and adds value to our city.

If you agree, please sign and share this petition to show our leaders that Poway needs to step up and build a community center we can all be proud of—something inspired by great examples like Paul Derda Recreation Center and the promise Measure H represented.

Let’s make Poway a better place to live, for everyone.
