What is going on between the Province and Distrikt Developments re TOC?

We the undersigned residents of Oakville request the Auditor General of Ontario conduct an investigation and audit to examine the financial and political connections between Distrikt Developments (“Distrikt”) including any possible personal connections and political donations from individuals affiliated with Distrikt to the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario.

The Province and Distrikt formed a partnership, and on November 14, 2024, the Province of Ontario, through the Ministry of Infrastructure, announced that it would jointly conduct an engagement process with Distrikt to gather feedback on the proposed Transit Oriented Community (“TOC”).

We the residents are particularly concerned about the actions of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Premier of Ontario, in continuing to pursue the enactment of its Oakville TOC with no collaboration with the Town of Oakville, and considering that Oakville Council rejected the TOC on January 27, 2025 on the premise that Oakville and its Council needs our local planning to be respected by the province because it has been given thoughtful analysis, public engagement and expert input. In addition, Council questioned the necessity of the TOC and noted that Oakville continues to meet its provincial housing targets and growth requirements.

We the residents confirm that the TOC is opposed by the majority of Oakville residents due to environmental concerns, overly tall buildings, extreme high density, severe traffic congestion, the significant cost of infrastructure and unanswered questions as to who will be paying the cost, and the fact that the development does not fit within the character of Oakville and will destroy the fabric of our Liveable Town.

We the residents expect that there is a reason why Distrikt is the only developer that will benefit from the Oakville TOC, and we want the Auditor General of Ontario to find out and determine if the reason is nefarious.
