I support Whangarei District Council keeping 116a Bank Street as a valuable community asset.

I support Company of Giant's proposal to develop it into an exciting, youth led art space, in collaboration with Northland Youth Theatre, Whangarei Youth Music, Sistema and others.

Company of Giants is a locally grown collaboration of theatre-makers who have been making work in Whangarei over the past five years, being involved in Quarry, Odyssey, Cake, Empty City, and The Owl and the Pussycat. We are increasingly making work with diverse groups in the local community, and are excited about the possibilities of continuing to make work with the people of Whangarei.

The Whangarei District Council have allowed us to use the former church and youth centre on Bank Street since November 2014 - by hosting community events, rehearsing theatre pieces, and turning it into a pop-up theatre! We wish to build on the success of our time in the space, by developing it into place of interaction, inclusion, and creation - leading a youth-focused project that generates a sense of pride in our city.
