Remove St John's Wood High Street's One Way System

The Issue

Westminister council has put in place a St John's Wood High Street Movement Strategy in an attempt to help the reopening of the hospitality sector. This has resulted in a one-way system, unsightly red & white poles, and striped barriers along the whole street and creating outside eating areas.

Restaurants & cafes already have tables around their premises and offer outdoor dining. We feel with the addition of creating eating areas all other businesses and road users in the local area are suffering and the scheme should be stopped immediately.

The changes made haven't helped the restart of all shop and business in SJWHS and in most cases made things a lot worse restricting ACCESSIBILITY & PARKING.

Below is a short summary of the changes:

  • 22 fewer parking spaces available on the high street and surrounding streets.
  • Made the street one-way with traffic flowing in the wrong direction and annexing residents and the local community.
  • No consultation with the local residents or retailers before implementing changes.
  • Created unsightly spaces with red & white bollards and barriers for restaurants who haven't yet re-opened or have permanently closed.

In summary, Westminster council has taken a beautiful victorian local high street and made it look like a war zone.

We'd like your support to have these measured reversed and reinstate St. John's Wood High Street to how it's should be.
