Making a consent module available at WSU

The issue

The safety and voices of students matter to us!!

Our goal is: for WSU to implement an online module on sexual consent that is mandatory for all commencing students, across all degrees, and accessed through vUWS.

Why should I care? Sexual assault & harassment can happen to anyone. Did you know that in 2016, 51% of university students experienced sexual harassment and 26% of students were sexually harassed at their university (AHRC 2017). These statistics highlight the need for sex education around consent, sexual assault and harassment.

We are a group of students that believe in nurturing a culture of consent within the WSU community. We strongly believe this module will be a step towards this, and would love to have the support of students.

The aims of adding a module include:
- Providing comprehensive education on consent that is easily accessible
- Potentially reducing incidences of sexual assault & harassment on and off campus
- Offering support services to survivors, often psychologically and emotionally impacted by sexual assault/harassment

If you are as passionate about this issue as us, we would appreciate your support through signing the petition.

Note: we recognise that the module could be potentially triggering for survivors. Therefore, we will suggest to the University that they supply exemption forms. Furthermore, it is online so that it can be completed in the comfort and privacy of one's own home.
